Gerry Michael
McGill
October 10, 1948 – May 9, 2026
Gerry Michael McGill, 77, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Chulio Hills Health and Rehabilitation in Rome, GA. Gerry was born on October 10, 1948, in Dalton, GA. He was a long-time resident of Chatsworth and spent his life doing things his own way — usually with a joke, a strong opinion, and a story that may or may not have gotten better every time he told it. Gerry never met a stranger and had a sense of humor that could fill a room, whether people were ready for it or not.
Gerry will be remembered for his quick wit, stubborn streak, and ability to make people laugh at exactly the wrong — and somehow right — time. He loved his family in his own way and never had much trouble speaking his mind, and anyone who knew him knew there was never much guessing where Gerry stood on things.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hester Hall and her husband, Forest Hall; his father, J.C. McGill Sr.; his sisters, Mary Alice Sims and Reba Whitener; and his brothers, J.C. McGill and Darrell Hall.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Iris Graham; his son and daughter-in-law, Mathis and Marti McGill; his daughter and son-in-law, Erika and Eric Underwood; his beloved grandchildren, Landon Condon, Kendall Condon, Graham Underwood, and Maison McGill; his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Dickie Barnes; his sister-in-law, June Barber; and many loving nieces and nephews.
While Gerry may no longer be here to tell stories, crack jokes, or give unsolicited advice, his family knows those memories — and probably a few of his one-liners — will live on for years to come.
There will be no public funeral service or celebration of life. His family will honor his wishes with a private gathering.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Chulio Hills Health and Rehab; Christina and Alix with Tapestry Hospice; and especially to his nurse, Theresa Hold, our angel on earth, for the compassion, care, and kindness they showed Gerry and his family during this time.
