Obituary

John Harry Smith, 88, of Dalton, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at home. He was a man defined by his love of family and friends. If he loved you, he loved you with his whole heart and being.

Early Life and Career

Born on May 5, 1937, in Dalton, GA to George and Annis Smith, Harry grew up in rural Murray County. He graduated from Murray County High School (Class of 1956). Harry served in the US Army prior to the Cuban Missile Crisis and then went on to a dedicated 34-year career at Mohawk Industries.

Family and Legacy

Harry's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Smith, and his daughter, Mandy Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Annis Smith, and sisters, Charlotte Smith and Pat Hunter.

Outside of work, Harry delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, sang passionately in the Sounds of Joy, and was happiest when surrounded by his wife and daughter.
