Mirza Diaz, 75, formerly of Dalton, GA, passed away on July 11, 2026, at PruittHealth-LaFayette, in LaFayette, GA. Mirza was born on November 16, 1950, in Havana, Cuba. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gumercindo Alpizar and Nelida Benitez.

Ms. Diaz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mario and Brooke Diaz; her daughter; her brother and sister-in-law, Hildo and Victoria; her sister, Elina; her brother, Emir; and her granddaughter, Isabella Alvarez.

Ms. Diaz was a loving mother who came from Cuba to the United States with a dream to have more and to do better in her life. She worked hard to earn her Master’s Degree in Special Education so she could help young minds grow. She taught for many years at Dalton High School in Dalton, GA. Mirza loved learning, reading, and teaching. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.

Ms. Diaz enjoyed music, watching television, playing solitaire, playing board games, and eating good food. Having a wonderful sense of humor, she loved to laugh and joke around with all those who surrounded her.

She will be deeply missed by all those who love her. May she rest in peace.
