Sherman Ladell “Doodle” Southerland, a beloved son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 25th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Dale was born on September 14, 1965, to Lana Dell Adcock McCracken and the late Sherman Southerland. He was a man who loved deeply, lived wholeheartedly, and never met a stranger. His warm heart, easy smile, and genuine kindness touched the lives of countless people.

He found joy in the simple things in life. He loved music, fishing, and hunting, but above all, he loved his family. His grandchildren were truly the light of his life, and he cherished every moment he was able to spend with them.

He is survived by his mother, Lana Dell Adcock McCracken, children, Rylie Southerland Blackwell (Nate), Breanna Southerland, Blake Southerland, and Dakota Southerland; his stepchildren, Autumn Mallett (Keith) and Chad Wade; and his beloved grandchildren, Natalie, Wrenley, Knox, Gracelyn, Wayleigh, Jenna, Kiera, Archer, and Harley.

He is also survived by his brothers, Scott Southerland (Amy), Larry Southerland (Linda), and Tony Dupree; his sisters, Angie Southerland Chastain, Sherry Bell (Ernie), and Shawn Goforth (James); his second mother, Judy Sexton; and his special friends, Sheila Couch and Traci Sexton.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Southerland; his sister, Joann Harper; and his nephew, Daniel Harper. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much, along with countless family members and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

His greatest gift was the love he gave so freely to others. He welcomed everyone with an open heart and never met a stranger. His laughter, smile, kindness, stories, and love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the love he shared will live on through his children, grandchildren, family, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

Rest peacefully, Doodle. You were loved more than words can say, and you will be missed more than you could ever know. A private celebration of life in Dale’s honor will be held for family and close friends.
