Obituary

William Peter Hyatt, Jr., 82 of Dalton passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, peacefully at his home away from home, Dalton Square.

Bill, as he was lovingly known as, was born March 4, 1943, in LaGrange, GA to Pauline Lott Hyatt and William Peter Hyatt. He graduated from LaGrange College in 1965, moved to Dalton to begin a career in chemical sales.

Bill was a member of ChristChurch Presbyterian. He was a deacon and later an elder. He was a man of deep Christian faith, quiet strength, and a kind heart that reflected the love of Christ in all he did. When someone asked him, how are you? He always responded, "Just right".

He shared 56 devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife, Nancy Gordy Hyatt. Their marriage stood as a beautiful testimony of commitment, faith, and enduring love. Together, they built a family rooted in Christian values, grace, and steadfast devotion.

An avid outdoorsman!! Bill found great joy in God's creation. He loved hunting, fishing, and backpacking, and felt closest to The Lord while surrounded by the beauty and quiet of nature. He was also a passionate sports fan, cheering faithfully for the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends.

He lived boldly and authentically, embracing life with a steady joy that never swung too high or too low. Known for his fierce positivity, generosity, and honesty, he gave freely and loved deeply. He was gracious and forgiving, affectionate in ways that were uncommon and deeply felt, and confident without arrogance. An encourager of excellence, he taught those he loved to work hard, take risks, and enjoy the journey. Above all, he loved unconditionally—offering truth without ever withdrawing his affection. His life left behind gratitude, courage, and a legacy of love that continues to shape those who knew him.

Bill was the proud father of two children: Carrie Hyatt Hulsey (Michael) of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Peter Hyatt (Tanya) of Clemson, South Carolina. He was a loving and faithful grandfather to his grandchildren: Hampton Hulsey, Mary Ellison Hulsey, Hannah Hyatt, Lauren Hyatt, Stone Hyatt, and Will Hyatt, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by wife, children, his brother, Bobby Dan Hyatt of LaGrange, Ga., brother-in-law, Robert Wetherill in Cross Plains, IN., and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
